Time: The Most Valuable Commodity of All

The most valuable commodity we have is time. Unfortunately, as I have gotten older, I have learned the hard way just how precious time is.

Everyone has heard the saying that time flies and life is short, but have you ever really considered what that means?

This is the definition of time management on Wikipedia: Time management is the process of planning and exercising conscious control of time spent on specific activities, especially to increase effectiveness, efficiency, and productivity.

Time for the Things that Matter Most

It sounds simple enough; manage your time to increase effectiveness and productivity. Right? Well, as it turns out, it isn't quite that easy. We are all busy, and life is pulling us in many directions.

Do you catch yourself saying, "I don't have time"? What if you had time to do the things that are important to you? Not everything but the things that really matter most.

In my new book Kick Ass and Have a Life, you will learn how to remove the belief that you do not have time and replace it with life skills to make time for the things that matter.

Embrace the Best Tools for Time Management

We all have the same amount of hours in a day, yet some people manage to exercise and eat healthy, vacation, have successful careers, and more. How the exactly do they do it when some of us barely have time to shower? Time management is the key, and knowing how to implement and use a set of time management tools changes everything!

At the end of your life, when you do not have the opportunity to go back and change your path, what will be the things that you are grateful to have spent your time doing? This is an important question to ask yourself now when you have the time.

Creative Ideas for Time Management

Here are some suggestions on things you can do to improve your time management:

  1. Guard your time as though your life depends on it because it does. You know those people that talk too much and don't say anything? Decide that those people don't get to dominate or waste your time. Communicate with them by e-mail and always start with "I have an appointment, but I wanted to get back to you".
  2. Decide who you will spend time with and schedule the time to be present. Easier said than done, but so important!
  3. Schedule time for yourself. This sounds simple, but it is one of the hardest things to do. First, take care of yourself, and then you can take care of others. Just like on the airplane, put your oxygen mask on before helping others.
  4. Beware of the "Time Suck". This applies to the mindless activities we do that are not productive but suck our time away. This includes scrolling on social media, gossiping with a friend, and shopping online. We all need downtime but mindlessly wasting our precious time doesn't serve us well.

Choose Your Time Wisely

Every day each of us is called to choose how to spend the hours in our day. When planned correctly, we can strategically create the life we desire and have the time to do the things that matter and that we will not regret.
